DIY Chevron Canvas

First of all, a quick Paleo update (with recipes coming soon):

I’m on day three of the diet, and it is going well so far! I’ve been trying to mix things up while keeping it fairly simple, which works best for me. Last time, I tried to follow all sorts of interesting recipes every night and just got exhausted with trying. I’ve found that quick, easy Paleo meals are the best for me, and that experimenting should be saved for the weekend when I have more time on my hands.

For example, last night I had steak and eggs with some fresh veggies on the side.

Delicious and filling!

Now, for the DIY.

I’ve been seeing the Chevron design all over Pinterest lately, and over the long weekend I felt inspired to do a project of my own.

I started with a blank canvas and gold spray paint.

Be sure to do this part outside to avoid getting spray paint all over your house and inhaling too many fumes!

I also recommend putting some newspaper underneath it before you spray it so you don’t get paint all over your grass/patio.

Lovely weather.

Lovely weather.

After I finished spraying the canvas evenly, I let it sit to dry overnight. It doesn’t need more than an hour or so, but I wanted to finish other things on my to-do list before getting back to this fun treat.

The next step was probably the most tedious, but I had an episode of Friends playing in the background which made it go by more quickly. I used painter’s tape to create the chevron design on my canvas.

At first, I was really bent on trying to get everything to look perfect and identical. After much frustration, I eventually gave up and decided that I was OK with a little imperfection–it adds character!

Then I went to town with my colors.

I had originally planned on doing a cleaner look, but once I finished painting I knew that it was missing something. I grabbed a sponge and some gold paint to give it a bit of texture. I did this while my paint was still wet because I wanted the colors to mix a little.

I set it under a fan to dry (I’m impatient), then took the tape off for the big reveal…

I absolutely love the way it turned out!

Here’s what it looks like in its new place in my room (under poor lighting conditions):

I may have to try out another chevron-inspired project this weekend…we’ll see.

If you’ve got some spare time on your hands or if you’re just craving an easy project, this one is ideal. The design  looks great and it’s so versatile, which makes it perfect for everyone!
